KG.A company can only enter the competition for the Design Award if its product has already been awarded a national or international design prize. Another precondition for entry is that companies must have been nominated by the Ministries and Senators of the Federal States or by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.In addition to the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany tendered by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology, the German Design Council (Rat für Formgebung) also awards a German Design Award. This second prize originated in 2012 as the Designpreis Deutschland (Design Prize Germany) after the Ministry transferred responsibility for administering the prize competition from the Design Council to DMY, and was renamed German Design Award in 2013.".
