- Gobojango abstract "Gobojango (/ɡʊbɒdʒɑːŋɡɒ/), locally known as Gobas (/ɡʊbʌs/) is located in the Central District, Botswana. It is located in the Bobirwa Sub-District near Semolale and Mabolwe Village. Semolale is 12 km and Mabolwe 16 km east of the village. Metsimaswaane River is located west of the village. Gobojango is located just few kilometres from the historic Gobadwe Hill, which is agreed to be the origin place for all Babirwa. Babirwa were under A Bakalanga Chief, Mambo here at the Gobadwe Hill and he left them to establish his kingdom in Alesupi in modern-day Zimbabwe. The Mokgethi family has been ruling the village since their arrival from Zimbabwe. Mokgethi family descends from Mare who was the son of Nkgwana. Nkgwana and Mokgadi were sisters and they had only one brother who failed to get married and therefore died without a son. It was decided that the eldest daughter, who is Nkgwana should find for herself a man who is a close relative who should make children to them to keep their chieftaincy. However Nkgwana had a son with a man who was not related to her by blood. The son was referred to as Mare, meaning he is not the real blood chief. During those days they were living in modern-day Zimbabwe, on the other side of the Shashe River. Mokgadi got married there and she divorced her husband and ran and crossed Shashe river to present day Botswana. Mokgadi's sons became chiefs on this other side of the Shashe River. Mare begot Mokgethi who continued to be the paramount chief of the Babirwa. One day Mokgethi committed an offence in Zimbabwe, and instead of waiting for trial he escaped into Botswana. By that time Khama had already gathered Babirwa together. He arrived in Gobojango and found his cousin Phole already a chief. Phole was told to give his seat to Mokgethi because he is the eldest. Phole therefore moved to Tsetsebjwe and established the Tsetsebjwe village. [the reason Phole was told to step down for Mokgethi was that her mother, Mokgadi was married but divorced and Mokgadi went and lived in her father's house with her children called maphole as they were not real sons of the palace but rather the nephews to the chief. On the other hand, Nkgwana who is Mokgethi's mother was chosen to bear chiefs].With all these conflicts about Bobirwa chieftaincy, Mokgethi is treated as not worthy because he was born out of a mix up of royal blood and a someone from elsewhere that Nkgwana chose to make children with. He is also not from the male lineage but female lineage which is often the weaker lineage in the tradition Babirwa custom. It has one primary school called Kobojango Primary School and a junior secondary school called Gobojango Junior Secondary School (Gobojango CJSS). The junior secondary school used to be referred as CNH because of the company which was building the school. Gobojango CJSS accommodates students from the three villages: Mabolwe, Semolale and Gobojango. There were few quarrels before on the naming of the school with inhabitants of Semolale and Mabolwe wanting it to be named after the first two letters of their village names; i.e. MASEKO CJSS.The village is also located 36 km from Bobonong, which is the capital of the Bobirwa Sub District. Qualifying students are enrolled in Matshekge Hill Senior Secondary School located in Bobonong(commonly referred to as Ma-Hill Senior) for their 2-year senior secondary school (form 4 and form 5).People of Gobojango are mainly farmers who rear animals and grow crops. However, in the recent years farming has been greatly crippled by severe droughts, inconsistent rainfall seasons and foot and mouth disease )FMD). The 2012 drought has left many inhabitants of the village and nearby villages with no cattle. There is a longstanding vegetable farm known as Farmers Korp which is owned by Shadrack Mapetla. One of his sons, Moagi Mmapetla has started growing vegetables in the farm under his company name: Wetsho. The vegetable farm is located along Metsimaswaane River and has been serving Gobojango, Mabolwe, Semolale, Bobonong and Selibe Phikwe for over 3 decades. Other vegetable farmers have established their own farms in the village.".
