Merits awarded for behaving well, excellent work and staying focused on given tasks, while demerits are given for misbehaving, being off task, not handing homework in, disobeying and disrespecting the teachers and pupils around the student. The school also gives referrals to pupils who have gone beyond the demerit line. The school has recently adopted a new 33 period timetable, this consists of certain days (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) having 7 periods in a day and finishing at 3:40 and (Wednesday and Friday) having 6 periods and finishing at 2:50.Pupils at Greenwood Academy are being educated with the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) that was introduced in 2010. The new curriculum takes third year exams and removes them from the course. It also changes the qualification levels, making Credit, Foundation and General into National Level 4, 5 or 6. The new curriculum also changes the marking system for teachers taking the normal letter marking scheme and turning it to numbers.".
