- Henry_Nash abstract "Henry "Harry" W. Nash, (September 9, 1869-July 5, 1902) was a miner, schoolteacher, cowboy and Rough Rider. He was born in Mount Sterling, Indiana. He attended school in Vevay, Indiana and college at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He was the son of George W. Nash, a schoolteacher, and Louise (Walden) Nash (-1892) and had a sister, Carrie Louise (Nash) Thompson (1862-1926), a schoolteacher. Both Henry and Carrie taught at the Strawberry Valley School near Payson, Arizona. He lived in Young, Arizona. He was good friends with Buckey O'Neill. In May 1898 he enlisted at Fort Whipple, Arizona. He served in Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, in Troop A of the First Volunteer Cavalry. After leaving military service, he received his teaching appointment in Manila in June 1902, for an annual salary of $1,200. He died of cerebral hemorrhage in Manila, the Philippines on July 5, 1902. The Elks Club forwarded his remains to his sister in Globe, Arizona. He is buried at Globe Cemetery Globe, Arizona.".
