- History_of_the_Jews_in_Bosnia_and_Herzegovina abstract "The Jewish community of Bosnia and Herzegovina has a rich and varied history, surviving World War II and the Yugoslav Wars, after having been established as a result of the Spanish Inquisition, and having been almost destroyed by the Holocaust. Judaism and the Jewish community in Bosnia and Herzegovina has one of the oldest and most diverse histories in the former Yugoslav states, and is more than 500 years old, in terms of permanent settlement. Then a self-governing province of the Ottomon Empire, Bosnia was the only territory in Europe that would welcome Jews after their expulsion from Spain. At its peak, the Jewish community of Bosnia had numbered between 14,000 and 22,000 members in 1941. The community today is home to between around 1,000 and 1,500 Bosnian Jews, spread primarily in and around Sarajevo, but also Banja Luka, Mostar, Tuzla, Doboj and Zenica.".
