- Hjelme abstract "Hjelme is a former municipality in Hordaland county, Norway.The parish of Hjelme was designated to be a municipality by a split from Manger on January 1, 1910. The municipality, which was known as Hjelmen at that time, had a population of 986. On 5 November 1912 the name was changed from Hjelmen to Hjelme by royal resolution. On 1 January 1964, Hjelme, then with 956 inhabitants, was merged with the majority of Herdla to form the new municipality Øygarden.Hjelme old church ( Hjelme gamle kirke) dates from 1875. Previously the inhabitants of the parish of Hjelme had to row across the Hjelte Fjord to either Hordabø or Manger. It is built of wood and has 180 seats. The church is no longer in active use. Hjelme Church (Hjelme kirke) is a working church builtin 1971. It was built of concrete and has 340 seats.".
