• IFTDA abstract "The Indian Film & Television Directors' Association (IFTDA) is an entertainment guild which represents the interests of film and television directors in Indian motion picture industry and abroad. Film like any other is a very indulgent art. Each one of its constituents, participants or contributors - be it the writer, the director, the music composer, the cinematographer, the sound designer, the art director... is fiercely possessive of his individuality and extremely proud of his special skill, his personal expertise in his professional domain. Yet, Film is an inclusive craft. It is only when one particular exclusivity merges with another and yet another that a cinematic symphony is created. It is only when a well written scene is masterly performed, outstandingly photographed on an exquisitely lit set, seamlessly cut into another one and superbly overlaid with soulful background music that a classic emerges. And the one person who is chiefly responsible to achieve this harmonious blending that brings a film alive is the DIRECTOR. With the advent of plethora of TV channels not only a large number of young directors joined IFDA en masse, they also brought us face to face with new set of problems, anomalies and violations confronting them and corroding their professional andcreative individuality, dignity and integrity. IFDA addressed them forthrightly and in its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held onSunday, the 23rd December, 2007, unanimously adopted two measures a) Re-christened our name to INDIAN FILM & TELEVISION DIRECTORS’ ASSOCIATION (IFTDA)and b) Adopted significant amendments to our constitution in order to suitably equip ourselves, also to address the issues faced by our brethren in the TV industry satisfactorily.Now we the members of the INDIAN FILM & TELEVISION DIRECTORS’ ASSOCIATION (IFTDA) give ourselves and solemnly offer allegiance to our CONSTITUTION - our instrument of faith as follows, duly amended till date:-Charter of regulationsThe Indian Film & Television Directors' Association, the premier body of Directors and Asst. Directors in the Film and TV industry of India, hereby determines that the following working conditions and professional obligations would be judiciously adhered to, by all our members while offering their services to any TV network / Channel and/or Production house for their Production / shows CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT - Every assignment as a Director or as an Assistant Director would be firmed up with specific agreement for laying the terms of engagement, e.g. working hours, remuneration, credits, incentives etc. The proforma for the same will be available from IFTDA TERMINATION - No Director or an Assistant Director would be asked to leave the programme without the prior notice of at least one month N O C - No new Director would be engaged for any show / production, unless a No Objection Certificate has been duly obtained from the out - going Director by the Channel / Production House or by the New Director himself PAYMENT SCHEDULE - The payment schedule should be such that the remuneration for each month's output by the Director / Asst. Director should be settled not later than 30 days after the completion of the month concerned HOURS OF WORK - No Director / Assistant Director would be asked / pressurized or persuaded to work for more than 12 hours at a stretch as maximum. It will be compulsory to have / provide a break of at least 8 hours. This will have to be ensured by either the Production House or Channel who engages the Director / Assistant Director. Any flouting of this regulation will attract penalties. A strict monitoring would be observed by IFTDA & FWICE. In the event of any extension of the shift after 12 hours, if necessary, a new Director / Asst. Director has to be engaged with the concurrence of the contracted Director. EPISODIC / 2ND UNIT DIRECTORS - The main Director of the Series / Serial & Stand Alone Shows will have the privilege of deciding the team of Episodic Directors and the 2nd Unit Directors DIGNITY - Every Director would be accorded the pre-eminent position and credit as per the conventions whenever there is an event related with the show directed by him CREDIT TITLES - It would be mandatory to carry the Director's Name as the concluding credit in the beginning of each show MINIMUM WAGES - No Director / Asst. Director will work on any remuneration less than the minimum scale firmed up by IFTDA / FWICE. Any flouting of this regulation would invite strict penalties. THE REAL CAPTAIN - The Director would be the final arbiter of all the creative processes in the production of the Film or TV show, unless it has been agreed to otherwise before hand".
