- In_the_Face_of_War abstract "In The Face Of War (sometimes abbreviated as ITFOW) is an American hardcore punk band formed in 2001 in Kokomo, Indiana from an earlier band known as blemish. The original lineup included brothers Ben and CJ Sutton, Eric Bogan, Chad Serhal, Curt Schrock, and Ryan Waggoner, with Bob Paul replacing Waggoner shortly thereafter. In 2002, the band released their debut full-length album on Together Records, titled "Self-Reliance is Self-Destruction". The band played shows around Indiana and the Midwest, while also completing their first tour. The band had begun to garner success throughout the Indiana hardcore scene. The band released a split CD with The Bowels of Judas in 2003 on Killed For Less Records. During the recording of this album, ITFOW began to have line up changes. By 2004, Chad Serhal had left to join Calibretto 13, while Curt Schrock and Bob Paul had also moved on to other endeavors. They were replaced by Nate Black on guitar and Matt Nelson on drums. On October 3, 2004, ITFOW released their second full-length album, "Live Forever Or Die Trying", this time on Init records. This release saw a shift in sound, dropping some of the metal and chaotic influences for more precise punk-hardcore parts. The album includes a cover of "Everlong" by Foo Fighters. The band followed this release immediately with fall and winter solo tours. In 2005, the band continued to tour throughout the country, while adding Bryan Bechtol as touring bassist to fill in for CJ Sutton. After a summer tour with Underminded, the band added Bechtol to the band permanently as bassist while CJ Sutton moved to play as third guitarist. This lineup remained intact while the band recorded their third full-length album, entitled "We Make Our Own Luck". This album was released in 2006 on Detournement Records. This album again saw a shift in style, with the band adding in more rock influences and shying away from metal riffs and breakdowns. The album was met with generally positive reviews from critics including Punknews.org and Geekburger. Along with the positive reviews came an interest from Australian-based Pee Records, who re-released "We Make Our Own Luck" in Australia with two additional bonus tracks and new artwork.Throughout 2007 and 2008 the band played mostly local shows, with only a few short tours. In 2009, the band returned to writing and recording without Eric Bogan or Bryon Bechtol, and with the addition of Mike Wilson on bass. The band then embarked a full U.S. tour in May–July with the Indiana-based The Sorely Trying Days and Omaha, Nebraska's Hercules. After returning home, the band released its fourth full-length album, "Everything You've Heard Is True", back again on Init records. In late 2010, In The Face Of War announced that they would be playing their 10th anniversary and last show as a band on May 7, 2011. The band embarked on a final tour of the Midwest from March 11–19, 2011, and held their last show on May 7, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Before the break up, the band recorded its last album, with 3 new songs and 8 re-recorded older songs, which was released at the last show. The last show was filmed to be released at a later date, either online or as a DVD.".
