K._Rahman_Khan abstract "Dr K. Rahman Khan, (born 5 April 1939), a chartered accountant turned politician from Karnataka, and a long-time member of the Indian National Congress. He is the Union Minister of Minority Affairs and former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Before holding the post of the Dy Chairman he was the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers. Mr Khan is one of the most prominent Muslim leaders of the country. He is currently the Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Govt. of India in his Fourth term in the Rajya Sabha. He has made the People feel the presence of the Ministry of Minority Affairs with his untiring efforts during a short span of time by initiating and revamping the various schemes for the Welfare of Minorities. He has traveled across the country propagating the schemes for the Welfare of the Minorities. He ensured that the Sachar Committee Recommendations are fulfilled in its true spirit and is working towards the fulfillment of 3 major Recommendations such as Equal Opportunity Commission, Setting up of Data Bank and Reservation.He has made a mark by successfully making a New Waqf Act 2013 to safeguard and develop the Waqf Properties in India. As a Chairman of the Central Wakf Council he laid the Foundation stone for a New Waqf Bhawan Building for Central Wakf Council and ensured the WAMSI Website containing the Wakf Properties Data goes public. A National Wakf Development Corporation (NAWADCO) is being set up to develop the Wakf Properties Commercially across the Country professionally. Under his Chairmanship, Maulana Azad Education Foundation got its exclusive office and a master plan for the New Building and set up of the Foundation is being Planned. Various initiatives are being taken to make the MAEF the vehicle to develop education among the Minorities. The Foundation aims to start 5 Universities and schools of repute all over the Country for the purpose.It is the result of his efforts that the Terror Suspects got the Special Courts for Speedy Trials.He has been successful in getting the Avoidance of Communal Violence & Rehabilitation Bill Passed in the CabinetHe has been working for making the Interest Free Banking a reality in India.He fulfilled the long standing demand of Jain Community for Minority Status by getting it passed in Cabinet.".
