- KAJX abstract "KAJX (91.5 FM) and KCJX(88.9 FM) are radio stations simulcasting a Variety format. The stations are licensed to Roaring Fork Public Radio, Inc. (DBA as Aspen Public Radio) in Aspen, Colorado (KAJX) and Carbondale, Colorado (KCJX). Located in Aspen, the non-commercial station is governed by a board of directors. It serves Roaring Fork, Crystal, Fryingpan, and Eagle River valleys in the state of Colorado. The station is run by Roaring Fork Public Radio, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation whose board of directors are elected by the station's members and is financially supported by its membership. The station was founded as Roaring Fork Public Radio Translator, Inc., in 1981 by Isaiah (Sy) Coleman. From 1981 to 1988, the station served as a repeater station for Wyoming Public Radio. In 1988 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted KAJX, Aspen Public Radio the license to broadcast, paving the way for Aspen Public Radio to broadcast locally originated programs as well as the national shows it chooses. In 2002 the FCC granted Aspen Public Radio its second license, KCJX, Carbondale. KAJX, Aspen, and KCJX, Carbondale, broadcast the same stream.Aspen Public Radio continues to broadcast a hybrid format of music (classical and jazz) and talk. Aspen Public Radio provides full local news broadcasts each weekday as well as national news and cultural affairs programming from National Public Radio, Public Radio International, American Public Media, and the BBC. Locally produced programs including jazz, bluegrass, blues, soul, electronic, and oldies music air throughout the week. The station is unique in that it partners with local cultural institutions like the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Aspen Writers' Foundation, and the Aspen Institute to broadcast and re-broadcast concerts and lectures to its entire listening public.Aspen Public Radio has a Citizens' Advisory Board that is in compliance with the requirements of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Communications Act of 1934. The purpose of the advisory board is to provide a vehicle for effective community input to the station's governing body about station programming, community service and impact on the community from the station's major policy decisions. The law segregates the management and operational functions of the governing board from the functions of the advisory board to ensure a clear demarcation between the governing board and the advisory board. The composition of the community advisory board must reflect its independent role, and may not include members of the station staff or governing body in anything other than ex officio or administrative capacity. The Citizens' Advisory Board meets quarterly and makes an annual report to the Board of Directors at the annual meeting in June.Aspen Public Radio is a member of the Rocky Mountain Community Radio Coalition (RMCRC), Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Basalt Chamber of Commerce, Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, Glenwood Springs Chamber of Commerce, and National Public Radio.Andrew Palmer Todd is the current executive director.".
