- Lola_LC89 abstract "The Lola LC89 was a Formula One car designed by Lola founder Eric Broadley for use in the 1989 Formula One season by the Larrousse team. It was powered by the 3.5L Lamborghini 3512 V12 engine designed by former Ferrari designer Mauro Forghieri. The car was generally regarded by most in the F1 paddock as the best handling car of 1989. Drivers of the car included Philippe Alliot, Aguri Suzuki and Michele Alboreto. The LC89, with its Lamborghini V12 engine, made its debut in Round 3 at the 1989 Monaco Grand Prix. Unfortunately, while the aerodynamics were good and the chassis was on the pace (the LC89 was generally regarded as being possibly the best chassis of 1989),[citation needed] the Lamborghini V12 engine, considered by many in F1 to be the best sounding engine of the new non-turbo era, proved to be generally unreliable, despite its reported 625 bhp (466 kW; 634 PS). The car and engine combination would only score 1 point in its racing life with Alliot finishing in 6th place at the 1989 Spanish Grand Prix. Indeed, five time Grand Prix winner Alboreto failed to pre-qualify the car twice (Spain and Australia) in his eight drives for the team in 1989.The LC89 was updated and used for the first two races of 1990, being dubbed the LC89B. The car was replaced by the Lola LC90 from the 1990 San Marino Grand Prix.".
