This work eventually led to his being awarded the 2013 FSF Free Software Award.Garrett currently works at the cloud computing platform company Nebula and is cited in the press an expert in cloud computing issues.Garrett has been a strong advocate for software freedom and compliance with the GNU GPL in the Linux kernel. For example, Garrett filed a complaint with US Customs against Fusion Garage due to violations of the GPL license.Garrett has also been outspoken on a series of cultural issues within the free software community including a number of issues related to feminism, sexism, and women in free software. For example, Garrett was involved in publicizing an incident in which Microsoft employees contributed code to the Linux Kernel that included hexidecimal code 0xB16B00B5 which was meant to refer to the English phrase "BIG BOOBS" and for publicly criticizing Microsoft for this.".
