- NASA_Space_Settlement_Contest abstract "The NASA Space Settlement Contest is an annual design competition for 6-12th grade students sponsored by the NASA Ames Research Center and the NSS (National Space Society). This contest is open to students ages eleven through eighteen from anywhere in the world. Individuals compete as individuals or part of a team in two categories, in teams of up to six students, and in teams of seven or more students. The goal of this contest is to have students learn about science and teamwork while working on projects to develop space settlement designs. Students submit a report about their designs to NASA Ames, and the reports are judged by aerospace professionals. Awards are given for artistic and literary merit as well. The director of the event is Al Globus. This time there were 592 submissions from 1,536 students taught by 168 teachers.The contest is spreading worldwide and entries were newly received from Bahrain, Qatar, Middle East and Bangladesh; though there was only one winner from middle east; Astraeus Space Settlement written by R.Ashwin (Indian School, Bahrain) Entries were submitted from 20 countries. The grand prize winners were Robert G., Jonathan S., Reagan F., Zared S., Jackie L., Gabriel T., under the instruction of Jeffrey R. of Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida for creating Maui. The prize winners are invited to present their work at the International Space Development Conference, LA, California. The highest scoring team at the event is awarded the NSS Bruce M. Clark, Jr. Memorial Space Settlement Award.".
