- NOVA_104 abstract "NOVA 104 was a 100,000 watt radio station that broadcast out of the 6th floor of the Pioneer Building in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The station's original call letters were KGRA and it was located at 103.7 on the FM dial. KGRA broadcast under the moniker of "Nova 104" from 1976 to 1981. Nova 104 played a format of album oriented rock music with laid back air personalities who each programmed the music for their individual shows from one of the largest vinyl album libraries in Louisiana. The format featured everything from AC/DC to Frank Zappa and included progressive country such as Jerry Jeff Walker and Rusty Wier. Nova 104 also featured a weekend jazz show which added to their diversity and appeal. The station offered a "hip" alternative to the news that complimented the AOR format by running nationally produced entertaining news bites called News Blimps and locally produced tidbits called Nova Information. The station was also community oriented putting on several concerts over the course of its history to raise money for worthwhile causes including the "Save The Arcade" campaign. Then in 1981 the station switched its format to Top 40 and its call sign to KBIU.From Don Wriborg aka Josh of Nova 104 - "It (Nova 104) did go ON AIRin January of 1976 and the first song was JIMI HENDRIX's National Anthem. The next song played was Green Grass and High Tides by the Outlaw's. The first dj on the air was ZORICK." " My first shift was on a weekend night when ZORICK got sick, and I had hurredly had to go on an HOUR before I was suppose to. I didnt even know what I would call myself, and ZORICK asked me, so I said to myself, "every mom I know was naming their "kid", JOSH, and I was a big guy, so I told ZORICK aka Ron Tyler", introduce me as JOSH, and it "stuck", ha.ha" Thank you Josh.OBBDJ LLC acquired the rights to the term "Nova 104" and the logo on February 18, 2013. Currently OBBDJ LLC is working on bringing NOVA 104 back as an internet radio station. Acquiring two websites to broadcast at www.nova104.net and www.nova104internetradio.com, OBBDJ LLC is putting up the actual broadcasts of The Nova 104 Rock and Roll Show which aired on the original Nova 104 FM station from January to June in 1980 as well as some test shows to see if there is a viable audience for the format.".
