Diggle senior subsequently married on 5 April 1883 Lily Julia Noble (d. 25 January 1942).He entered the Royal Navy, training like all other naval cadets at Britannia, and was on 8 June 1897 appointed to the battleship HMS Royal Sovereign as a Midshipman.
