Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) was established on 11 October, 2003 with the purpose of uniting and binding the Nepali Diaspora under one umbrella. It is the only global organization that networks with the people of Nepali origin who reside in many countries outside South Asia. With the Nepali Diaspora’s belief of “Once a Nepali Remaining Always a Nepali”, their network represented by NRNA has developed itself into a formidable force that can represent Nepali interest globally. Keeping this in mind, the Government of Nepal has given legal status to Nepali Diaspora by promulgating Non-Resident Nepali Act 2064. For practical purposes Nepali citizens living outside South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member countries or the People of Nepali Origin (PNO) holding foreign nationality other than SAARC nations are considered as NRNs.The NRNA, holding its motto "by Nepali for Nepali" has set the overarching goals to unite and bring Nepalis residing all over the world under one umbrella; to protect and promote their interest in and outside Nepal; and to utilize their potentials and resources for the welfare of Nepal.To achieve these goals, the NRNA currently has some well shared and finely articulated common objectives. These include:1. Promoting Diaspora’s financial investment in Nepal2. Promoting the Exchange of Knowledge and Technology between the NRNs and Nepal3. Obtaining dual citizenship (Nepali) for the Diaspora members who have taken foreign citizenship4. Helping the global Nepali community, especially the NRNs who work as migrant labors5. Supporting the local communities in the adopted lands".
