It depicts the Virgin Mary (Theotokos) accompanied by God the Father and the baby Jesus. Mary wears a Tsar's crown and holds a sceptre and globus cruciger — the symbols of monarchic authority.Monarchists believe this is an indication of the Virgin Mary holding monarchic authority which will be returned to Russia after the Russian people repent for ousting the monarchy during the Russian revolution and bring the Tsar back.It was unexpectedly discovered in a church in Kolomenskoe on the day of the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II (March 2, 1917) after a countrywoman saw supposed Mary in series of repetitive dreams telling her to find the "red icon" in that church. It is presumed to date from the late 18th century and until 1812 it was kept at the Ascension Convent in the Moscow Kremlin from where it was hidden in the course of French invasion of Russia.".
