McCully also played a prominent role in organising protests against the Supreme Court of India's ruling, which went against NBA.He authored a book, Silenced Rivers: The Ecology and Politics of Large Dams (London: Zed Books, 1996, rev. ed. 2001), and in 2008 published an article in The Guardian arguing that the UN-run carbon trading mechanism is corrupted and might actually promote damage to the environment while enriching the responsible companies.".
