- Rich_Harvest_Farms abstract "Rich Harvest Farms is a private golf course and country club near Sugar Grove, Illinois, about 50 miles (80 km) west of downtown Chicago. Built in 1989 and expanded in 1999, the 18-hole championship golf course is on an expansive 1,800 acres (7.3 km2)..The club is owned by Jerry Rich, a self-made millionaire and alumnus of Northern Illinois University. Rich invented a method to incorporate five separate stock exchange software programs into one. Rich Harvest Farms hosted the NCAA Central Regional Men's Golf Championships in 2007 and the Solheim Cup in 2009. It is scheduled to host another men's NCAA regional in 2014, the 19th Palmer Cup in 2015, and the second International Crown event in 2016.In 1999, it was named the fifth-best new private course in the U.S. by Golf Digest. The course made its debut on that magazine’s list of Top 100 American Golf Courses in 2003, and is currently ranked number 45. The Solheim Cup set attendance records with over 120,000 for the week (Monday to Sunday), and the LPGA is looking at Rich Harvest Farms to potentially host a future tournament. A longtime LPGA event in Springfield, the LPGA State Farm Classic, was discontinued after the 2011 season. In addition to a golf course and several private residences, the 2,200-acre (8.9 km2) rural site houses several antique stage coaches and a collection of vintage and modern vehicles, including Al Unser's 1992 Indy car, and cars from many movies. A portion of Rich's massive automobile collection occupies the first floor of a building with a 50,000 sq ft (4,600 m2). footprint. The golf course is an extreme test of a golfer's skill. Measuring over 7,700 yards (7,000 m) from the professional tees, the course requires precision with every shot. The famous fourth hole, Devil's Elbow, has one of the most intimidating tree-lined tee boxes and fairways of any golf course.Rich, with golf course architect, Greg Martin, designed the present 18-hole course as an expansion from his original "18-hole" course, which began with only six large greens—each approached from three different angles from three different tees and fairways. The course was used for the Ryder Cup Captain's Challenge in 2012. The primary competition was held at Medinah Country Club in Medinah. It is also the home course of the Huskie golf teams of Northern Illinois University in nearby DeKalb.".
