- Roman_Catholic_Diocese_of_Tulle abstract "The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulle comprises the whole département of Corrèze. Originally established in 1317, the diocese was suppressed by the Concordat of 1802, which joined it to the see of Limoges. In 1817, the diocese was theoretically re-established by the Concordat of 1817, and re-erected de facto by papal Bulls dated 6 and 31 October 1822. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Poitiers. On Thursday, December 12, 2013, Pope Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulle that had been submitted by Bishop Bernard Louis Marie Charrier (who had been in office since his 2001 appointment by Pope John Paul II) in accordance with Canon 401.1 of the Latin-rite Code of Canon Law, which states that a Bishop must offer his resignation to the Pope for age reasons at age 75, or for other grave reason, such as incapacitation due to illness or injury). Pope Francis named as Bishop Charrier's successor the Reverend Father Francis Bestion, who until then had been serving as Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mende, based in Mende, France. Bishop-elect Bestion was born on May 8, 1957, in the commune of Fontans, France, a part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mende. His secondary education was at St. Joseph High School (Lyceo) Marvejols (located in Marvejols, France). He majored in Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy in Montpellier, France. He entered the congregation of the Frères du Sacré-Coeur (Friars of the Sacred Heart), and served as a teacher and director at St. Joseph High School (Lyceo) Marvejols. He completed the requisite graduate studies in Theology for presbyteral ordination at the Seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Avignon, based in Avignon, France. He was ordained to the Catholic priesthood on May 27, 1990, for service in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mende. In 2007, he obtained a Licentiate (post-Master's degree) in Theology from the Institut Catholique of Toulouse, France. After ordination, he held the following ministerial positions: Parochial Vicar (Associate Pastor), and then Pastor, in Langogne, France (1990-2002); Instructor in Philosophy in the Seminary of Avignon (1992-2003); Instructor at the Seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toulouse (2003-2005); Director and Instructor in the Seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toulouse (2005-2009). Then, in September 2009, he was named the Vicar General of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mende by the Bishop of Mende, his most recent assignment. Bishop-elect Bestion's episcopal ordination and installation as Bishop will take place at a date in the near future.".
