- Sæle_Church abstract "Sæle Church (Norwegian: Sæle kyrkje) is a parish church in Balestrand Municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It is located in the village of Sæle, on the northern shore of the Sognefjorden. The church is part of the Balestrand parish in the Indre Sogn deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The yellow, wooden church, which has 170 seats, was built in 1903. It was consecrated on 28 April 1903 by the Bishop Johan Willoch Erichsen. The architect Hans Jacob Sparre from Oslo made the Romanesque-revival style designs for the building. Sæle Church was built to replace the centuries-old stone Kvamsøy Church on the nearby island of Kvamsøy. Sæle Church (and Kvamsøy Church before that) have always belonged to Vik parish (and municipality), but in 1964, it was transferred to Balestrand parish (and municipality).".
