- Shallaway abstract "Shallaway, formerly the Newfoundland Symphony Youth Choir, is an organization of 220 young people from the city and surrounding area of St. John's, Newfoundland. It was founded by Susan Knight, the Artistic Director. The guidance of the group is facilitated by a Board of Directors, consisting of thirteen members, as well as an Honorary Advisory Board.Shallaway choir is a choir founded by Susan Knight in 1992. There are more than 200 choristers in Shallaway ranging in age from 7-18. There are 3 main ensembles in Shallaway. Children's chorus is the entry level for shallaway choiristers to help children foster a love for music and singing. Children's Chorus consists of 5 mini ensembles. The children's chorus boy's ensemble, children's chorus girl's ensemble, children's chorus Junior ensemble for grades 2 and3 and Children's chorus Senior ensemble for grades 4-7.The members of Shallaway are divided into three groups: the Children's Chorus, Jubilate, and Camerata. Jubilate and Camerata together form the Youth Choir while the Children's Chorus serves as a preparation for prospective Youth Choir members. Jubilate consists of 51 members averaging 13 years of age, while Camerata is 54 members strong with an average age of 15.Founded by Susan Knight in 1992, SHALLAWAY (formerly the Newfoundland Symphony Youth Choir) is a cultural agency based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada that expresses itself though choral music. Its more than 200 choristers, age 7–18, come from the city of St. John's and its surrounding areas, and sing in six developmentally sequenced ensembles. The mandate of SHALLAWAY is to: * develop independent choral musicianship and cultural awareness in its membership; * connect the province with the wider artistic world through choral excellence; * promote, preserve and transmit the rich folk culture of Newfoundland and Labrador; * celebrate cultural diversity and connection in this nation and around the globe; and, * develop its young choristers as leaders for the future in and for Newfoundland and Labrador.".
