He has played in several other bands, including United State of Electronica and Shane Tutmarc & The Traveling Mercies. In June 2009, Tutmarc released his first solo album, Shouting At A Silent Sky. In January 2010, he re-located to Nashville, TN. In early 2011, Tutmarc released the limited-edition EP So Hard to Make An Easy Getaway.Tutmarc's song "So Hard to Make An Easy Getaway" appeared in Lifetime Original Movie Girl Fight (starring Anne Heche) in 2011 which corresponded with the single being released on iTunes. His song "Lost Myself Again" from Shouting At A Silent Sky (2009) was used in the "New York" episode of Anthony Bourdain's The Layover on The Travel Channel. "Lost Myself Again" was also used in ESPN's Bo Jackson documentary, 30 for 30: You Don't Know Bo, in 2012.In early 2013, Tutmarc released a series of covers via digital outlets. Nashville Scene described his cover of Lana Del Rey's "Ride" as "a rad little bit of Americana-stalgia." Tutmarc's video for "Ride" featured home footage of Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, and Marilyn Monroe. "Ride" was followed by a cover of Rilo Kiley's "Portions for Foxes," the video for which includes clips from Twilight Zone episode "Perchance to Dream". Tutmarc concluded the covers series with Nirvana (band)'s "Aneurysm" in May 2013.".
