The creek experiences acid mine drainage, much of which comes from Muddy Run.Native American crucibles have been discovered along Tangascootack Creek. The Pennsylvania Railroad and the Scootac Railway were once in close proximity to the creek. Minerals in the Tangascootack Creek watershed mostly consist of bituminous coal, fireclay, sandstone, and slate. Agriculture, lumbering, and mining of coal and iron were the most prevalent historical industries in the watershed. The watershed is mostly forest and sparsely populated in the 21st century.".
