- VAQ-140 abstract "Electronic Attack Squadron 140 (VAQ-140) is a US Navy electronic attack squadron. Known as the Patriots, the squadron operates the EA-6B Prowler carrier-based electronic warfare jet aircraft. The squadron is homeported at NAS Whidbey Island, in the Puget Sound. They are attached to Carrier Air Wing Seven. The Patriots’ history began on October 1, 1985, when the Chief of Naval Operations directed the squadron’s commissioning. Shortly thereafter, the Patriots were tasked with the test and evaluation of the AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) for use on the EA-6B. The success of this test and evaluation period led to the introduction of the HARM into the Prowler community. Morris, Commander, Carrier Air Wing 7 (CVW-7).Morris relieved Martinez due to loss of confidence in his ability to command following the completion of a Judge Advocate General Manual (JAGMAN) investigation which revealed poor leadership and a negative command climate among the squadron's officers.The JAGMAN investigation found Martinez willfully ignored Navy instructions, knowingly submitted officer Fitness Reports containing inaccurate information, made inappropriate racial comments, exercised undue influence on subordinates, and made false or misleading statements.Cmdr. Scott Hardy has been named interim commanding officer. Hardy previously commanded VAQ-136.The "Patriots" are based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash and are assigned to Norfolk-based CVW-7 aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69).Martinez, a naval flight officer (NFO) enlisted in the Navy in 1988 and completed the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) program followed by his graduation from the University of Oklahoma and commissioning in 1996. He completed flight training and was designated a NFO in 1998 and subsequently became an electronic countermeasures officer in the EA-6B "Prowler" aircraft.VAQ-140 is transitioning from the EA-6B to the EA-18G "Growler" aircraft.Martinez has commanded VAQ-140 since November, 2012.
