Washington Trust Field is named after Washington Trust Bank in which, Pete Stanton, the chairman and CEO of Washington Trust Bank, and Jack Heath, president of Washington Trust Bank, were the major forces behind the field naming. The Bulldogs formerly played on campus baseball at August/ART Stadium and Pecarovich Field, from 1968 to the 2003 season. The bulldogs played in Avista Stadium, an off-campus site to make way for the McCarthey Athletic Center, home of the Gonzaga Basketball Teams, while the new facility was being planned and constructed. The first game in the new facility, was March 15, 2007, a 9-4 victory over the Rider Broncs. The first night game was played April 17, 2007, a 7-4 defeat to the Washington State Cougars. The dedication game was played April 20, 2007, a 6-3 victory over the Saint Mary's College Gaels.".
