- William_Harvey_House built "building started in 1714 and was finished in 1715. William Harvey, of Lye, Worcestershire, England had come over to escape persecution for being a Quaker. He married Judith Osborne, a recent Quaker widow, and built the house for her and her four children. William and Judith had several more children. On 9/11, 1777 the Redcoats and Hessians, under the command of General Knyphausen, ransacked the Harvey House in the early stages of the Battle of the Brandywine. Washington's artillery, situated across the Brandywine River, upon seeing the Redcoats began to shell the house. William Harvey, Jr., had tried to stay with the house to "protect it" , but ended up leaving ia hurry when a cannon ball came through the wall and nearly removed his leg. The house remained in the Harvey family until shortly before the Civil War.".
