- Winter_Street_Concourse abstract "The Winter Street Concourse is a pedestrian tunnel in Boston, Massachusetts connecting the upper levels of Park Street and Downtown Crossing subway stations of the MBTA. It can be used to pass freely between these two major transfer stations without boarding a Red Line train, and is therefore a means of transfer between the Green and Orange lines (this type of connection is also possible at Haymarket and North Station).The tunnel was constructed in 1915 in conjunction with the Red Line tunnel below it, but not opened to the public until 1978; before then it was used for storage and offices. The tunnel originally continued southeast of Downtown Crossing to a point past South Station, as a provision for a future trolley line which was never completed. Construction of the Dewey Square automobile tunnel as well as the Big Dig have since bisected the unused section of tunnel in that area.".
