The inaugural event was announced as the opening event of the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series, becoming the second venue in the Middle East to host the Australian series, joining Bahrain International Circuit, home of the Desert 400.For 2010 and 2011, the race used a shorter version of the F1 track, with a "Corkscrew" section between Turn 3 and halfway down the back straight. This shortens the track to 4.7 km, with lap times approximately 2 minutes.The 2012 race moved to the full 5.5 km circuit as it was part of the Etihad Airways Grand Prix weekend. The race format was shortened to three 66-km sprint races, all with lunchtime starts to allow Australian television.The Yas Marina Circuit was initially scheduled to host the 2013 Yas V8 400 in support of the 2013 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but with the Grand Prix support bill expanding to include rounds of the GP2 and GP3 Series championships, the round was removed from the V8 Supercars calendar.The first event was won by Jamie Whincup who won both races dominating the weekend. Whincup also won the second event in 2011, taking one race win with James Courtney taking the other.".
