- catalog description "Sky & Telescope is the combination of two separate publications, each of which has its own history. The Amateur Astronomer's Association began publishing "The Amateur Astronomer" in 1929. Shortly after the Hayden Planetarium opened in 1935, the American Museum of Natural History began issuing "Sky," which absorbed "The Amateur Astronomer." "The Telescope" began in 1931 at the Perkins Observatory in Ohio, edited by Harlan Stetson. When he moved to Harvard in 1934, he brought the magazine with him. The two journals merged, and the first issue of the new "Sky and Telescope" appeared in November 1941.".
