- catalog description "Winthrop L. Grenville was born in 1864 to a wealthy family with ties stretching back to the Colonial era. He attended Harvard as an undergraduate student in Natural History and later as a Law Student, graduating in 1886 and then in 1889. In 1892, Grenville married Mary Tallmadge Trevor, and they had two daughters, Emily and Kate. After working as a lawyer and banker, Winthrop retired and dedicated his life to developing and managing his art collection. With the help of various dealers and art historians, he collected artwork across a many mediums and historical periods until his death in 1943, when he donated his entire collection to the Fogg Art Museum.".
