- catalog abstract "This collection contains handwritten reminiscences of Rosalie Magruder's experiences working in the War Records Office and the Students Records Office at Harvard University from 1920 to 1949. The first page is typewritten, and outlines her duties in the early part of her career in the Harvard Students Records Office working under Delmar Leighton, Assistant Dean in Charge of Records. Magruder recounts her decision to change careers from teaching to office administrative work in 1920, and the tasks that that her career in the Students Records Office involved including compiling student registration cards, processing student grades, and fulfilling transcript requests. Magruder also details how technology was changing their day-to-day work, including how Reginald Phelps, "did much towards working up the use of IBM machines in keeping the academic records of students," and how the outbreak of World War II impacted her work in the Students Records Office. She also extensively describes her interactions with Harvard administrators including Harvard president A. Lawrence Lowell, several Assistant Deans in Charge of Records who served during her tenure in the Harvard Students Records Office; faculty members, and students. Aside from her professional activities, Magruder also briefly details her experiences living in Cambridge with her brother, Harvard Law School Professor Calvert Magruder.".
