- catalog description "Baptist missionaries and educators in India, Reverend Adoniram Judson Tuttle (1875-1943), of Ohio, and his wife, Frances Kemble Davidson Tuttle (1876-1946), of West Virginia, arrived in Assam in 1901. As well as evangelistic and educational duties, A. Tuttle had administrative ones as field secretary and treasurer of the Assam Baptist Conference. F. Tuttle conducted a kingdergarten, teachers' training classes, and prayer and sewing meetings for Indian women. Their daughter, Lucile Burdette Tuttle (1903- ), served as her father's assistant (1929-1936) and was warden (1934-1936) of the American Baptist Hostel for college girls attending Cotten College, Gauhati. She also taught in Ohio, and at Abbott Academy, Wellesley College, and Emma Willard School, and was Director of the Upper School at the Community School in Teheran, Iran. Her brother, Stephen Davidson Tuttle (1907-1954), taught music at the University of Virginia and Harvard.".
