There were 29 presidios at the time of Rivera's inspections. Northern New Spain included parts of California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, and all of Arizona and New Mexico. In Mexico it included parts of Aguacalientes, Jalisco, Nayarit, San Luis Potosi, and Zacatecas, and all of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Durango, Nuevo Leon, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tamaulipas, and Baja California Norte and Sur.".
