- catalog abstract "This report is a collection of seven resource papers prepared for the Transportation Research Board's Committee for the Study of Geometric Design Standards for Highway Improvements, whose overall findings were published in Special Report 214: Designing Safer Roads - Practices for Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation. Several experienced researchers were asked to review current knowledge about the relationship between safety and selected highway features. Their findings are presented here on the following: curvature; sight distance; lane width, shoulder width and shoulder type; bridge width; pavement edge drop; and pavement resurfacing. In addition, a critical review of expected changes in vehicle characteristics and their effects on relationships between highway geometry and safety is also presented.".
