- catalog description "Henry James (1879-1947) received his AB (1899) and LLB (1912) from Harvard College. In 1912 he became the business manager of The Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. After serving in the Army during World War I, James worked primarily as a writer. His life of Harvard President Charles W. Eliot (1930) was a Pulitzer prize-winning biography. James served as Chairman of the Board and President of Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America from 1932 to 1943 and is largely responsible for the extension of TIAA retirement plans in educational institutions. James was also an Overseer of Harvard College from 1920 to 1933 and a member of the Harvard Corporation (elected in 1936).".
