- catalog abstract "There are two parts to this collection: Part 1 is the Pre-Congressional Poll, and Part 2 is the Nationwide Election Day Poll. Part 1 of this study consists of a nationwide telephone survey conducted in late September 1978, focusing on the respondents' voting intentions for the 1978 United States Congressional elections. Respondents were asked whether they intended to vote and what issues would influence their vote, their reactions to President Carter's policies, and their preferences for presidential candidates in 1980. Background information was also gathered. Part 2 is a nationwide "exit" survey conducted at the polls on election day, November 7, 1978. Voters were asked to fill out a questionnaire asking which party they voted for in the Congressional election and their opinion on a number of current political issues.
