- catalog abstract "This is the first in a series of studies sponsored by the Survey Research Center for researchers who want to collect data on national samples but require only part of an interview. Two studies a year, spring and fall, are being planned. The following topics are covered in this study: 1) economic situation, 2) quality of life, 3) attitudes toward governmental service agencies, 4) income tax, and 5) background questions. The economic conditions section is a traditional set of economic items asked every quarter by the Economic Behavior Program and is listed separately in Section IV (Economic Behavior and Attitudes) of the Guide. The second section, quality of life, is part of a larger integrated study that is also listed in Section XVI (Social Indicators) of the Guide (see Andrews and Withey). The largest topic area is on the respondent's experience with and attitudes toward various governmental agencies, those dealing specifically with health, welfare, and employment. This section is known also as the "Bureaucratic Encounter Study." The fourth section focuses on incomes taxes: tax rates, income tax withholdings, and tax refunds.".
