- catalog abstract "This dataset consists of a distinct panel across the three election waves, the cross-section samples associated with each election study, and a vote validation study. The panel component consists of a maximum of five interview points for each respondent (pre- and post-1972 election, post-1974 election, and pre- and post-1976 election). The vote validation data were gathered in the spring-summer of 1977, through interviews with election registration officials and from examination of voting records of the respondents participating in these election studies. Filter variables have been generated to allow for the retrieval of each of the distinct panel and cross-section samples. In addition, all restrictions on variables from the 1972 study have been lifted and all data are available in this release. Because of the complexity of this data series, a guide to the file data contents has been prepared and will be distributed with data requests. The guide serves as a cross-reference list to the comparability of questions across the years. It also indicates which variables have been recoded or added to the data series.".
