- catalog abstract "The study investigates the respondents' interest in politics and their use of the news media as sources of political information. National issues, such as the power of trade unions, pension and social service spending, and government aid to education, are explored as are areas of international scope. The respondents' awareness of social classes is probed through questions concerning class mobility, and the political party affiliation of various classes. Respondents' opinions of the political parties and party leaders, their past party affiliations and voting patterns, their own active involvement in party work, and their familiarity with the platforms and performance of local members of both the federal and the state parliaments was ascertained. This study is the first in a long-range three part study of the attitudes and behavior of Australians. The primary sampling unit was the federal constituency (or federal House of Representatives, parliamentary division), the electoral role was the sampling frame. A multi-stage, stratified, national probability sample was used to obtain information from 2,054 respondents in the form of 410 variables.".
