- catalog abstract "In November 1958, Kyokai, the Social Research Institute of Tokyo, conducted the first in a series of studies of the voting population of metropolitan Tokyo. Respondents were asked about political party preference, degree of party support, and their evaluation of the three major political parties, rating party activities, ideologies, platforms, and representativeness of voter interest. The position of the Communist party in Japan is also explored. Variables probe the respondents' satisfaction with the state of politics in Japan, attitudes toward means of political action, opinions about changing the Japanese government and constitution, and attitudes toward political participation. Foreign relations are explored through questions about Japan's position in the world and particularly about diplomatic problems with the U.S., Russia, and Korea. Personal data include information on sex, age, occupation, education, standard of living, and labor union membership.".
