- catalog abstract "A companion to the General Sample, the Intensive Sample provides much more detailed information on all disturbances absorbing 1,000 or more man-days of activity plus a random tenth of all others. For 576 disturbances, information on demographic, geographic, economic, political, and historical background is provided for each of the 1 to 9 communes involved in the disturbance. Each of the 1 to 9 ''formations'' is described in terms of social, economic, and political background, precipitating factor, forms of and responses to violence, action with other formations, character and explicitness of objectives, and territory controlled. Data on the organization of each formation is provided in terms of leadership, co-ordination, segmentation, stratification, differentiation of the formation, as well as magnitude (participants, man-days, number arrested, killed, or wounded). Outcome of the disturbance and changes resulting from participation are also reported. In addition, a detailed description of the magnitude, objectives, and immediate consequences is provided. Identification of newspaper, archival, and secondary sources material used in coding is also part of the data set. As with the General Sample, a card-image version of the Intensive Sample contains many detailed comments from the source material and coders pertaining to the disturbance.".
