- catalog abstract "The October 1974 cross-section is part of a continuing series of surveys of the British electorate, begun at Nuffield College, Oxford, in 1963, continued at the University of Essex. (See ICPSR 7868, ICPSR 7869). The October 1974 Cross-Section interviewed electors in Britain, selected into a multi-stage, self-weighting, stratified probability sample. 1,674 respondents had also been interviewed in the February 1974 cross-section (See ICPSR 7868) although this is NOT a panel file. Respondents were asked about their attention to mass media and political campaigns, their evaluation of political parties, their party identification and political behavior, and their attitudes on various domestic and foreign issues as well as social mores. Standard background items were included. These data were provided by the Social Science Research Council Survey Archive, University of Essex, England. The data and accompanying documentation are disseminated, under an agreement with the SSRC, exactly as they were received, without modification by the ICPSR. This agreement also provides that ICPSR will disseminate the data only for use within ordering institutions and that multiple copies of the documentation must be obtained from SSRC ratherthan the Consortium.".
