- catalog abstract "Two samples of respondents, school board members and superintendents, were chosen for this study. The regular board sample was chosen on the basis of the public schools sampled in the Student-Parent Socialization Study. The sample consists of 82 boards with jurisdiction over the public schools in the Student-Parent Socialization Study. Out of 83 potential boards from the original sample, 81 are represented, for one board that refused, another was substituted, for the second board that refused, a board in the original sample was double weighted. Superintendents from the above districts were interviewed and comprise the regular superintendent sample. The supplementary board sample consisted of thirteen big city boards of education that were added to the sample to complement the Survey Research Center's American National Election Study, 1968. Shortened versions of the schedule were administered to board members and superintendents in these districts. Two subset datasets were constructed from variables derived from an overlapping subset of questions asked of both the regular and supplementary samples. The study surveyed attitudes of the school board members and the school superintendents toward their jobs, personnel policies, and toward the relationship between the school district and the community. Information is also included on the characteristics of the school districts included in the sample.".
