All persons in civilian households in the United States and male members of the Armed Forces living outside military housing comprise the universe for this data collection. Approximately 58,000 households were selected for the sample. Data are provided on the employment status, occupation, and industry of persons 14 years old and over as well as supplemental data on work experience, income, noncash benefits, and migration. Demographic characteristics are also included. Supplemental statistics are shown in this particular survey on noncash income sources. The nine sources are: food stamps, school lunch program, group health insurance, pension plan, personal health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, CHAMPUS (military health), and energy assistance. This is a hierarchical file with separate records for household, family, and person.".
