• catalog abstract "The data for this study were taken from a sample of students from four departments--law, political science, architecture, and engineering--in Milan, Italy. The interviews started by asking respondents about their high school educational and formative experiences. They proceed with problems related to the respondents' performance at the university including grades, evaluation of examination procedures and professors. The respondents are also asked about the reasons for choosing their field of study and their, as well as their family's, satisfaction with it. Questions probe evaluations of the function of the university in society and of the ongoing student protest and its consequences. These are followed by probes on the political and educational aspects of the University Reform Bill and on the role of the students' political organizations. Respondents are also asked to evaluate their representatives as well as weigh their interest in the problems of the university. Further questions deal with the respondents' perspectives of political events in Italy and elsewhere and on their political orientation vis-a-vis their family. In addition respondents are asked to give reasons for their choice of a specific professional field and to talk about their views on their future family including answers on divorce, family planning and the role of women. The interview concluded with probes on associations the respondents may belong to, on their friends, on their leisure activities, and on general information about their parents' families.".
