- catalog abstract "Extracts from the 1980 Census entitled the Master Area Reference Files (MARF) link geographic areas with their respective numeric codes, they also contain total population and housing unit counts. The geographic data are arranged hierarchically in the following order: States (including the District of Columbia), counties, minor civil divisions (MCDs) or census county divisions (CCDs), places within MCDs and CCDs, census tracts or block numbering areas, and block groups or enumeration districts. This release, also known as the ''MARF 3 School District Equivalency File,'' is an extract of Summary Tape Files 1A and 3A from the 1980 Census. In addition to providing the standard MARF geographic data, it associates school district identification numbers with the lowest available levels of census geography, flags are provided where an area is split between districts. The data are contained in 51 distinct files, one for each state and for the District of Columbia. The number of records in each file ranges from 1,144 for the District of Columbia to 48,165 for California, all files have logical record lengths of 387 characters.".
