- catalog abstract "This study, sponsored by the city of Milan, was conducted by Alessandro Pizzorno for I.L.S.E.S. (Lombardi Institute for Economic and Social Studies) in early 1964. A total of 2,892 people were interviewed and were stratified into five random samples corresponding to residents of five sections of Milan. A subsample of 450 respondents were re-interviewed with the use of a second questionnaire which probed more deeply into the subject of political and associational participation. Findings of this study were edited by I.L.S.E.S. in November 1964, and later appeared in Quaderni di Socialogia special issue, July-December 1967, XIV, pp. 3-4. The five sections were selected in accordance to the following criteria: (1) genesis of the neighborhood (compact municipality, pre-war settlement spurred by industrial development, recent industrial development), (2) type of residential areas (subsidized United States versus non-subsidized), (3) morphological characteristics of the section (unplanned versus planned development) (4) degree of efficiency of infrastructures and services (according to their efficiency index). The respondents were probed on their socio-economic mobility, political awareness, relationship with neighbors, place of origin, and familiarity with Milan and its cultural-political life. In addition, they were asked about their knowledge of events in the neighborhood, the types of leisure activities they participate in there, their family life, and their participation in political and social activities in the neighborhood.".
