- catalog abstract "The 1965 data were gathered in order to provide information about the social and political climate of the peer groups and the entire senior classes attached to the student interviewees who were the subjects of the Student-Parent Socialization Study, 1965. The 1973 data were gathered primarily to provide a trend line. The schools in each year were defined by the 97 included in the Jennings' Socialization Study. The number of cooperating schools was 77 in 1965 and 85 in 1973. Within schools, all members of the senior class were potential respondents. The number of respondents in the 1965 study is 20,682 (85% response rate) and 16,929 respondents in 1973 (approximately 80% response rate). The weighted data provide a sample that can be considered a nationally representative sample of high school seniors based on population distributions as of the mid-1960's. In both studies several key political and personal measures were developed that paralleled those used in the Student-Parent Socialization Study, 1965 (ICPSR 7286). Each year's data collection also differed in some respects, with 1965 including more attention to the social studies curriculum and the social climate, and 1973 devoting more attention to additional political variables and to ethnic and religious composition.".
