- catalog abstract "The National Medical Care Utilization and Expenditure Survey, 1980 was designed to produce a database of detailed information on the country's health status, patterns of health care utilization, charges for services received, and methods of payment. The survey was based on a sample selected to represent the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States. Repeat interviews were conducted with the initial panel of 6,600 responding households at approximately twelve-week intervals beginning in early 1980 and ending in mid-1981. The Health Care Financing Administration and the National Center for Health Statistics co-sponsored the survey. Data were collected by the Research Triangle Institute, National Opinion Research Center, and SysteMetrics, Inc. under contract to the Department of Health and Human Services. The study consists of six parts: Person, Medical Visit, Dental Visit, Hospital Stay, Prescribed Medicine, and Other Medical Expenses and Condition.".
